The Feed is a trading arm of Community Interest Company LEAP (www.norwichleap.co.uk)  providing fine food, catering services and more, in and around Norwich. They’re passionate about food and people – well, that’s what it says on their website – and nothing The Feed’s founder Barry Allard, a Fellow of the School for Social Entrepreneurs in Ipswich, tells me makes me think otherwise.

I’m re-interviewing Barry 18 months on from our first chat about what starting a social enterprise demands and how he and his growing team have overcome the challenges.

Fool’s Gold: Have I Got Social Enterprise News For You

Untitled design (11)

Bonjour, welcome to April. I was going to do some sort of April Fools’ Day themed newsletter but on reflection decided that it would be far too tiresome, both for me to write and for you to read. Or did I? Is one of these stories an April Fool? Are all of them April Fools? Or am I the April Fool?

See, tiresome. And this newsletter doesn’t need to be any more irritating than it usually is, so I’m just going to crack on with the news, starting with a super offer just for newsletter subscribers – don’t say I never give you anything.

Enjoy your weekend

A missive from the Treasury: Have I Got Social Enterprise News For You

SSE budget briefcase

In the unlikely event that you missed it, there was a budget this week. I’m still reeling from the news that the tonic in a gin and tonic will qualify for the sugar tax, which has displeased me so much that I have decided to draft my own budget. It makes no mention of things like inflation, fiscal targets or deficit forecasts because while I understand that those things are important they are actually quite boring and I’m not always sure what they actually mean.

Enjoy the news…

Gap Learning – a growing family

Latest in the new More Expert by Experience series by Chris Lee @LeeInRoyston

Nearly 18 months after graduating from the School for Social Entrepreneurs in Ipswich, I discover that fellow fellows Amanda Page and Teresa Crickmar are sisters. Well I only studied alongside them for 12 months… There has also been a wedding, but more about that later.

Teresa and Amanda

When I first interviewed the two sisters separately, almost exactly two years ago, they were developing two different social enterprises – FullSpoon (Amanda) and Craftworks (Teresa). I hadn’t a clue they planned to work so closely together to launch GAP Learning, but then I’ve discovered there’s a lot I didn’t know about them.

Meet Mary Murphy

A key part of our programmes are ‘Witness sessions’ when students hear from inspirational speakers (witnesses) who have first-hand experience of the issues our students are facing. Like witnesses in a law court they give testimony about what it’s really like to start and grow social organisations. Our Witnesses are some of the most inspirational entrepreneurs around who take time out of their very busy lives to help our social entrepreneurs.  We’d like you to meet them and be inspired!
