SSE partners with University of Exeter for a social impact programme

27 Apr 2023

For a second year, SSE will partner with the University of Exeter to deliver the Gateway to Careers: Social Impact Programme. The programme aims to enable students to gain experience and a better understanding of what it’s like to work within a social enterprise.

The Gateway to Careers: Social Impact Programme runs over the summer of 2023 for students passionate about social and environmental causes to help them explore how they can make a difference. Fun, interactive and supportive group sessions introduce students to the world of social enterprises. And a further paid internship matches students to appropriate social enterprises in the South West of the country.

Nourallah Chakroun, Founder of Inspiring Women’s Network, hosted an intern during the Gateway programme of 2022: “Internships are a great way for social enterprises to be able to access support, professional expertise, and resources whilst providing the intern with a rewarding opportunity where they can immediately see the huge amount of difference and impact they can make in such a short amount of time on an organisation.”

What does it mean to SSE being involved in this programme?

This programme is a fantastic opportunity for SSE and the University of Exeter to build on its shared commitment to inspiring potential future social entrepreneurs and build on the understanding of the social economy and its impact on our communities. For SSE it forms part of the thematic priorities of our strategic planning and focus for the next 3 years, where we have aligned to four of the United Nations Sustainability Goals (UN SDG’s), including SDG 4 Quality Education. We are excited about the benefits to the students, the Social Enterprises they will work with and the beneficiaries those organisations directly support.
