Eating jelly and ice cream: Have I Got Social Enterprise News For You

How’s it going? I’m writing this surrounded by balloons, party poppers and sickly sweet cake because it’s Have I Got Social Enterprise News For You’s birthday party. That’s right, we’re four years old this week. Look, here we are way back in 2013. How the time has flown…newsletters grow up so quickly these days.

Enjoy the bank holiday weekend – I am actually going to a joint birthday party for eight (near enough) one-year olds – wish me luck, I think I’m going to need it.

Oh good, another election, said absolutely no-one. What with the general election in 2015, the referendum in 2016 and now another general election I’m beginning to think that we should all be claiming expenses from Westminster. I could do with a new duck house. Of course, HIGSENFY is politically neutral (and has to be because of purdah guidelines) so will not be mocking any of the candidates, despite how incredibly easy it is to do so.

Election or no election, the world of social enterprise trundles on. Here’s this week’s choicest cuts…

Three word slogans are a commonly used device in marketing: ‘Every Little Helps’, ‘Just Do It’, ‘Finger Lickin’ Good’. There are loads and loads of examples, it’s all to do with the rule of three. But there’s one three word slogan that trumps them all: Four Day Weekend. Has there ever been a trio of words that generate such positive emotion? The possibilities they are evoke are endless, filled with hope and optimism. Try it in your office now – just start chanting “Four Day Weekend, Four Day Weekend, Four Day Weekend” – your colleagues will break out into a state of delirium. What a glorious day today is.

Whatever you’re up to over the next few days, enjoy!

Up since the crack of dawn: Have I Got Social Enterprise News For You

Greetings from Oxford. I’m a little grouchy today because I had to get up at about 6am to get here, and I do not do my best work when I get up at 6am. Still, I’m here for Marmalade, the sun is (just about) out and it’s Friday so things are looking up.

Enjoy your weekend – I’m going clubbing tomorrow, which at 36 years old I’m at least ten years too old to be doing…
