Yorkshire and Humber: About Us
SSE Yorkshire and Humber was established in 2009, and is based in Leeds.
Programmes are built on learning by doing, an approach that emphasises experience, experimentation and personal needs. Our students have ranged in age from twenty to seventy; from twelve years' unemployment to running a community organisation full-time. They are all highly individual people - so they're quite different from each other, and have widely differing ideas and plans for how to make things better in their communities and/or wider society. What they have in common is that they're passionate about improving things, and are open to learning how to make their own vision succeed. They support their fellow students when that's needed, and equally they challenge, encourage and stimulate each other to get towards their goals.
Experienced social entrepreneurs from all sorts of different ventures and organisations bring their inspiring stories for our students to learn from. As often as not, that involves a story about overcoming various adversities, similar to the real issues faced by other social entrepreneurs. Blend those experiences with technical business sessions, and bind the whole programme together with regular Action Learning Sets and one-to-one mentoring, and you have a proven recipe for helping people move forward.
